Two new Pasco County schools need names

Two new schools are opening in Pasco County next year and the Pasco County School Board is taking suggestions on what to name them.  The board prefers to name schools after the general location or special features of the area but will consider naming them after a prominent person who has demonstrated outstanding civic or educational contribution.  The person suggestion must be deceased for two or more years or no longer holds public office or no longer employed by the district for at least two years.

Do you have a great name you would like to submit?  Email your suggestions to Deborah Herbert dhebert@pasco.k12.fl” with the subject line of Elementary B or High School GG.  Email submissions should have a brief explanation as to why you feel your name is the best for the new school.  Be sure to send them in before October 1, 2016.

“Elementary School B”is currently being built in the new Bexley Ranch subdivision, just north of SR 54 near the Suncoast Parkway.  It is expected to ease overcrowding conditions at Oakstead Elementary and Odessa Elementary.  (I’m sensing a “O” theme with these names)

“High School GG” is currently being built on Old Pasco Rd. in Wesley Chapel.  The school will initially open with grades 6-12 in attendance.  The county expects it to effect the current boundaries of Wiregrass Ranch, Wesley Chapel and maybe even Sunlake High Schools.

Let’s put our thinking caps on and suggest the next name for one of these schools.  Wouldn’t it be great if your name was chosen?
